2024: A Year of Remarkable Growth
This year, Science & Wine’s website traffic soared, with nearly 19,700 views—a 20% increase compared to 2023—and over 14,000 unique visitors, reflecting a 19% growth in our global reach. Our audience was notably diverse, with readers from the United States leading the way, contributing 6,915 views, followed by Portugal with 1,488, and Italy with 900. These numbers underscore the platform’s international appeal and ability to connect audiences from different cultural and professional backgrounds.
May and November stood out as periods of heightened activity. This trend aligns with the publication of some of our most engaging articles and execution of successful campaigns. These spikes illustrate the resonance of our content and its ability to attract attention during the key moments of the year.
Among the standout blog posts in 2024, “Three Decades of Research on Wine Marketing” became the most read article with 959 views. This piece offers a comprehensive analysis of marketing trends, capturing both professionals and enthusiasts with depth and actionable insights. Another highlight was the article “Does the Size of a Wine Glass Affect How Much We Drink?”, which garnered 751 views. It provides an intriguing exploration of behavioral psychology and practical implications, sparking curiosity and discussion. Meanwhile, the technical yet accessible piece on “Wine Bottle Overcapping Wax: Aesthetic or Functional Element?” attracted 621 views, resonating with producers, collectors, and readers fascinated by the interplay between form and function in wine packaging.
Our presence on social media has also flourished, further amplifying our reach and engagement. On Instagram, we connected over 12,000 unique accounts and saw more than 4,500 profile visits. Engagement peaked in May and November, reflecting the impact of well-timed and carefully curated posts. The platform experienced steady growth, with approximately 600 new followers organically joining throughout the year.
Facebook, on the other hand, reached over 15,000 unique users and recorded 3,000 page visits. The content shared on this platform also demonstrated strong performance, with a significant number of interactions during campaigns promoting blog posts and community discussions. The steady addition of approximately 400 new followers on Facebook highlighted the platform’s role in nurturing loyalty and expanding our audience.
This year’s growth was driven by our commitment to produce high-quality, relevant content that blends scientific rigor with accessible storytelling. Through in-depth analyses, thought-provoking studies or niche topics that resonate with specific audiences, Science & Wine have solidified its reputation as a trusted source of knowledge and inspiration.
Looking Ahead: The 4th Science & Wine World Congress
The 4th Science & Wine World Congress, scheduled for May 28–30, 2025, in Porto, will be the highlight of the upcoming year. The congress’s theme, “Energy, Sustainability, and Green Transition in Wine and Olive Oil Production,” reflects the critical need for innovation and sustainable practices in these industries. Organized with the support of the Universidade do Porto, Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, Associação das Empresas de Vinho do Porto and the Comissão Vitivinícola Regional Alentejana, the event will bridge the gap between cutting-edge research and practical applications.
Participants will explore topics ranging from renewable energy solutions and water conservation strategies to biodiversity preservation and carbon footprint reduction. Hands-on workshops will provide actionable insights into sustainable vineyard management, organic farming techniques, and certification processes. These sessions will ensure that attendees are equipped with the knowledge to implement meaningful changes in their practices.
Congress will also serve as a platform for networking and collaboration, encouraging dialogue among academics, producers, and policymakers. Hosted in Porto, a city known for its rich winemaking heritage, the event will combine intellectual engagement with cultural immersion.
